Vintage Market Pillow

I ordered my Vintage Market fabric shortly after it came out - and its been sitting in a pile on my counter because its so cute as a stack.  I needed a special occasion like my niece having a birthday to make me finally cut into it.  I love all lines by Tasha Noel.  If you haven't seen her blog - its full of adorable stuff.

Here's some quick info on my measurements in case you want to make one:  I cut the center squares at 4.5" and I cut strips measuring 1.5" from all the other fabrics in the line.

Sew the strips together and iron the seams open.  Then, prepare the checkered border by cutting four strips at 1.5" intervals.

It makes little 1" border squares when you're done - so adorable.

I cut the middle white strips at 1" and used them to add some sashing around the center squares.

For the outer border, the white strips are 2"

And I finished it off with some hand quilting in red - its just normal thread but I do a double thickness when stitching.  I hardly ever get the special "hand-quilting" thread.

For the backing I used one of my favorite fabrics of all time - its from Bonnie and Camille's line called April Showers.

And my little boy really thought we should take a picture with the kitty instead of the teddy bear...

  2. Precious! You've made great use of the fabric in this design for the block. Do you put a zipper in the pillow?

    1. Thanks - I do like to close it with a zipper. I just added a link to how I do it in my tutorials section called, "Finish a pillow with a zipper." let me know if you have any questions!
