Satchel Bag Tutorial

For this project you'll need:
- 2 pieces of fabric that are the same size - one for the outside (mine is quilted scraps) and one for the lining.
- 1 piece of batting the same size as your fabric
- 1 strip 3" x WOF (width of fabric)
- 1 zipper

Start by following these instructions to make your strap:

Now lay out the outside fabric facing up.  Pin your strap 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the left side.

Add your zipper face down and pin.

Layer on your lining, face down and pin.

Last put on the batting and pin.

You now have four funky layers like this - take it to the sewing machine and sew along the top of your project, taking out the pins as you go.

Now repeat with the other side, and you'll have a funky looking thing.

If you want to quilt your bag at all - do it now (I just did some straight lines across).

Then turn your bag so the lining on on the outside and the zipper head is in the middle of the top of your bag.  Sew a 1/4" seam around both sides and the bottom.

Clip any threads on the inside, turn it right sides out and....ta da!  A lined bag
